Westminster School is an ancient day and boarding school educating 1,030 pupils aged 7 to 18, with a unique sense of place and a global reputation for academic excellence predicated upon open-minded enquiry, rigorous discussion, and the search for explanation beyond the syllabus. The school occupies an historic site within the precincts of Westminster Abbey, and Westminster Under School is located a short walk away, in Vincent Square. The schools are led by separate Heads, who report both singly and jointly to the Governing Body of the overall charity, the College of St Peter in Westminster.

Following the recent appointment of Amanda Oakley Smith as Bursar & Chief Operating Officer, and in a brand new role, the Commercial Director will contribute significantly towards the fulfilment of the school’s future vision by developing new commercial business to support the charity and its schools. They will work in close partnership with members of the senior leadership and report to the Bursar & Chief Operating Officer. Over the coming years their work will help to secure a broad and diversified business model and a rich portfolio of commercial activity designed to generate alternative sources of income to support the school’s charitable objectives. The Commercial Director’s work will deliver tangible impact by enabling Westminster to widen access to young people who show exceptional academic ability, passion and potential for learning, regardless of their financial backgrounds.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of success in a commercial leadership role in any of the not-for-profit, property, housing, retail, hospitality, leisure, education, healthcare or other commercial sectors, and will bring highly developed commercial acumen, a spirit of entrepreneurship and an appetite to build a highly effective team. They will be comfortable working towards ambitious targets and KPIs, and will have outstanding levels of EQ and cultural sensitivity, empathetic to the traditions and unique features and characteristics of Westminster School.
They will be able to work collaboratively with educational and other stakeholders, will have the gravitas to sensitively influence key figures at the school and beyond, and will be a compassionate and competent leader.
